Friends In America's new single, 'The More I Have, The Less I Own (The More I Learn, The Less I Know)' is officially released on May 15th 2014!
Recorded by Marshall Craigmyle at Old Mill Studios, this is our first recorded outing as a band that didn't involve us spending two years in Hamish's bedroom (as eye-opening an experience as that was). After the incredible response to 'What It Is To Be' last year, 'The More I...' (sorry not sorry for the ridiculously long title) will be your first taste of our follow up release, coming at some point later in the year. Expect something a lot more raw and eclectic, whilst still maintaining pop sensibilities. In other words, expect 'Utilitarian' by Napalm Death
lyrics
Turn off your phones, turn off your phones... turn off your phones
I don’t need your soft sarcastics
No sick jokes, no quotes from Kerouac
My life in a mattress and prison bar blankets
My own little cushion nest
“Oh Matthew, you know that I love you...but you’re full of shit”
The more I have, the less I own
The more I learn, the less I know
I made my peace, weighed down my teeth and tore through my tongue
Built a bitter ark and capsized my heart with selfish songs
No...
The more I have, the less I own
The more I learn, the less I know
My back and forth, my tennis court of to’s-and-fro’s
Forget-me-nots
Forget-me-nots and letting go
Well, where’s my home you kaleidoscope? Oh, where’s my home?
Try cheering up. Find one word that floats
Forget-me-nots and letting go
The more I have, the less I own
The more I learn, the less I know

Sparkling synthpop with an emphasis on high-wattage chords and the kind of melodies that burrow themselves deep in the brain. Bandcamp New & Notable Dec 1, 2023
A collab between Jill O’Sullivan, Peter Kelly, and Andy Monaghan of Frightened Rabbit, “This Rock” is moody indie at its best. Bandcamp New & Notable Apr 23, 2022
